Four and a half years after its birth, exactly on the occasion of the XVIII Turin Motor Show which opens on 28 October 1961, the second Flaminia series is exhibited, which presents some changes, above all mechanical: a new shorter drive shaft ( thanks to the “bell-shaped” extension of the engine output and the clutch input) which no longer requires any intermediate support, and an increase in the engine compression ratio (from 7.85 to 8.40: 1) which leaves almost the torque value remains unchanged (which indeed is reduced from 19.5 to 19.2 kgm) but increases power (from 102 to 110 hp DIN) and speed (from 160 to 166 km / h).
In the bodywork, apart from some modifications to the dashboard (addition of openings for the flow of air into the passenger compartment (with butterfly adjustment), changes to the ventilation and heating system conveyors, new direction indicator repeater in the instrument panel) , we note the adoption of reversing lights, with relative modification of the rear light units.
It should also be noted that the second Flaminia series, unlike what happened in the case of the first series, can also be supplied with a right-hand drive.
Starting from the summer of 1962, the Flaminia sedan also definitively abandoned drum brakes: from then on, it was equipped exclusively with disc brakes, which are no longer supplied on request with a surcharge: the list price, however, goes from 2,940. .000 to 3.000.000 Lire, with an increase of 60.000 Lire, exactly the amount that until then had to be paid for the most advanced braking system.
At the 16th Frankfurt Motor Show in autumn 1963 the version with engine displacement increased to 2.8 liters was born, which in fact marks the end of the second 2 and a half liter series, which however remains on the list, to the “increased” sister, until 1968, evidently for the disposal of engine stocks.
